Reading School GCSE results 2024

Congratulations to all Year 11 GCSE students

Information sharing on examination results days can be overwhelming, and superlatives excessive. We’d simply like to say “Well done” to all our students and “Thank you” to all our staff. GCSE outcomes today show that students at Reading School make exceptional progress. We are really proud of our Year 11 students today, and we celebrate each one of them.

Lizzie Ayres, Deputy Headteacher, noted,

We’re really pleased with today’s results! 100% of Mandarin and Music entries were awarded grades of 9 and 8. 85% of all entries were awarded grades of 7-9. Subjects like Computing, History, PE and Physics have achieved their best results on record. Some students have overcome real adversity and achieved beyond their expectations. Others have been aiming high for five years and have come away with grades 9s in every single qualification. So many of these young people have sustained outstanding academic performance whilst caring for others, playing sport or music to the highest level and developing excellence far beyond the curriculum. We are so proud of all of this cohort, who have now matched their personal development with public examination success.

Headmaster, Chris Evans, added,

We hope that these excellent GCSE results provide a springboard for every single student. We believe that education is a lifelong journey, and we can’t wait to see what our cohort goes on to do with their lives. Students this year have shown passion, determination, skill and character. We hope that for each of them this small stepping stone is an encouragement to explore even more eagerly, to listen even more intently and to question even more urgently. We hope that, having flourished with these assessments, our students will be brave enough to wrestle with the challenges of the age and to spend their talents wisely.

Around 130 out of the 154 students in this year group will be staying for the Sixth Form, with an additional 50 students joining the cohort. We particularly send congratulations and best wishes to those who will now be joining other institutions. As we welcome new members of the community, we thank those who are leaving for all they have shared with us. We will miss them, and wish them all the very best.
