Kaloyan (Kalvin) G (Year 13) attends Climate Futures: Youth Perspectives Report Launch ahead of COP26
Held at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park, last Thursday to take part in the launch of the Youth Perspectives Report Launch.
This event was part of the pre-COP26 preparation before the official conference takes place in Glasgow in early November. It was hosted by Serena Bashal (a member of the UK Youth Climate Coalition), William Finnegan (the author of the report and a doctoral student at the University of Oxford), Elizabeth Kitchenside (a contributor of the report), Harriet Lamb CBE (the Chief Executive of Ashden) and Azzees Minott (the Chair of Greens of Colour, a part of the Green Party).
Kaloyan (Kalvin) G (Year 13) said:
The evening involved the chance to meet with all four of the speakers after they had given their speeches and discuss how young people view the climate crisis. I attended the event in-person as I was one of the people especially invited to it, given my involvement in the Reading Climate Change Partnership and British Youth Council. I really enjoyed the evening as it allowed me to get involved in discussions and debates surrounding one of the defining global affairs of the 21st century - climate change.
Mr A M Robson (Headmaster) said:
We are delighted to see our students representing at key events that impact us all. As educators, we have a major role to play in helping to address this threat, enabling children to understand the climate emergency and ecological crisis and think critically about how they can play their part as we seek to move to a more sustainable world and a better future for them.
This includes how we think about the buildings we work and learn in increasing energy consumption as well as how we travel to and from school.
Here at Reading School we have initiated a newly created 'Climate and Environment' hub on Teams where regular information and resources will be available to students, as well as creating a platform for discussions about what we can all do to make a difference.
We welcome suggestions from local businesses and institutions on how we can partner together to provide our students with local initiatives to help drive change. Please contact Mr Singh at dsingh@reading-school.co.uk.
