In loving memory of John Michael Evans
The memorial service for former Deputy Headmaster, Mike Evans (July 1945 - August 2021) was held on Sunday 10 July at Reading School, followed by the Old Redingensians v Reading School T20 Cricket Match played in his honour.
Family, friends, colleagues and ORs came together to remember and celebrate the life and legacy of Mike Evans who served Reading School from 1968 to 2005, as West House Day Master, Deputy Headmaster (then known as Second Master) and Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish).
"As a new Headmaster I was immensely fortunate to inherit Mike Evans as one of my deputies. Mike's wise judgement and experience were invaluable not only in my early days but throughout my seven years at Reading School. The quiet word of encouragement; the raised eyebrow when he wasn't quite sure I was thinking along the right lines or making a sensible decision; the gentle but no nonsense practical approach to school leadership; his unflappability whatever the circumstances. Above all his total commitment to wanting the very best for the boys, for the staff and for the School exemplified his whole professionalism. He was the complete schoolmaster - a complete Reading School master. What a legacy of service and dedication Mike leaves and a shining example to all who were fortunate to have known him." Peter Mason (Former Headmaster, 1990 - 1997)
