Pastoral Care
'Young people say they feel safe and that one of the main reasons for this feeling of security is the accessibility of the staff; they can talk to staff members about anything and the staff are always there for them. Young people also look out for each other. An atmosphere of mutual respect has successfully been created.'
Our dedicated team of boarding staff, most of whom live on site, includes two inspirational Housemasters, two Deputy Boarding Housemistress' and nine Boarding Tutors who are among our most committed academic staff.
East Wing and South House each has a Matron whose pastoral care is second to none and a Pastoral Support Assistant who works across both houses. Our overriding priority is to promote the health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils. Mental health and emotional well being of our boarders continues to be a key priority.
Every boarder has the support of a personal tutor, who provides regular support and advice. New boarders are allocated a buddy, a student from the year above, and a sixth form mentor.
Boarders also benefit from additional academic support. This includes one and half hours of supervised homework time every evening, with academic support clubs for boarders who need additional help. Sixth form boarders play a very positive part in shaping a culture of aspiration, academic endeavour, co-operation and support, and are excellent role models for the younger boys.
The Medical Centre
Our First Aider is on duty in Student Support from 8.00 - 4.00 Mon-Thurs and 8.00 - 3.30 on Friday. She will make contact with parents if a pupil is ill and needs collecting from school.
Our doctors' practice is a 10 minute walk away and appointments are made for our boarders by the Matrons. Matrons will also book and accompany boys to dentist appointments. The school is also very conveniently located opposite the Royal Berkshire Accident and Emergency Department.
