GCSE Results 2022

Regarding specific subjects, 88% of pupils achieved grade 9-8 in Chemistry, 87% achieved a grade 9-8 in Physics, 84% of pupils gained grades 9-8 in Computer Science and 84% achieved a grade 9-8 in Drama.  In Mathematics, 83% gained grades 9-8.

Once again, students of Ancient History, Modern Foreign Languages and Physical Education also excelled, and across all subjects 43% of entries were awarded a grade 9. 24 students achieved A or B grades in AS Religious Studies and 96 in Additional Mathematics.

Celebrations in the boarding community were particularly ebullient, with Harry Aldred (11S), Lucca Khanghura (11C), Irvathraya Prahlad (11W) achieving stellar results, as well as Mr Sanchez announcing the birth of his first son, Bruno!

Tom Leggett and Josha Gupta both achieved the highest possible grades with 10 grade 9s, an A in Additional Maths and in A grade Religious Studies AS. Josha was also the highest performer nationally in OCR’s GCSE Biology examinations.

Mr A M Robson (Headmaster) commented:

“Reading School students are amazing.  As with their A-Level counterparts, our Year 11 students have overcome great adversity and can be thrilled with their achievements. We’ve loved watching them learn, grow and flourish and could not be prouder of their outstanding results. I would also like to thank the staff and the governors of the School. Their endeavours through the COVID-19 pandemic have been truly exceptional."

Today’s positive outcomes illustrate the value of Reading School’s focus on character education. Academic excellence is a necessary, but not sufficient measurement of our students’ progress. We see these grades as a wonderful reflection of the curiosity, the perseverance and the community-mindedness that this cohort have nurtured.  Ms Ayres, Assistant Head and Safeguarding Lead said:

“Our students should be congratulated on their achievements today.  This group of students have secured great results and have shown real character. We now look forward to seeing how they build their leadership skills in House activities and through Future Stories mentoring programmes, and how they develop intellectual curiosity that will propel them to the top universities in the world.”

Mr McGall, Assistant Head said:

“High-quality teaching and exceptional pastoral support ensure the personal and emotional development of our students.  We wish our students well in their future studies, both here at Reading School and at other institutions.”
